ALERT: The Senate is hearing the Best and Brightest Bill
Updated On: Feb 25, 2016
FEA Action Alert

They’re at it again...

As you know, last year the Legislature appropriated $44 million for a program called Best and Brightest.

Senate Bill 524 by Sen. Don Gaetz (R-Niceville) would make Best and Brightest law. SB 524 will be heard this Thursday, February 25, in the Senate Appropriations Committee at 10:00 AM.

The Best and Brightest Teacher “Scholarship” Program awards teachers based upon their high school SAT or ACT scores. Basing teacher bonuses on tests they took when they were 17 or 18 years old is just silly!

This program has been called "ridiculous", "the worst bill of the year" and the "biggest waste of taxpayer money in history". It is a national laughingstock.

The Senate claims they were "tricked" last year by the House but - believe it or not - lawmakers are trying to pass it again!

We need to remind our lawmakers that basing bonuses on a teacher’s SAT or ACT score is completely absurd and does not help teachers or students.

Please click here to urge your senator to VOTE NO on SB 524! Ask your senator to vote against the Best and Brightest program and pay all teachers fairly instead.

Your voice is needed on this urgent issue.

Click here to tell them teachers don’t want the Best and Brightest program.

Sincerely,

Joanne M. McCall, President
