ALERT, Annual Contract Teachers!
Posted On: Mar 27, 2017

Dear Citrus County Annual Contract Teacher,

Treating teachers as valuable and respected professionals with job security is in the best interest of our students. That is why the Citrus County Education Association has negotiated enhanced protections for you in our contract, including the reappointments of Effective and Highly Effective Teachers.

Our ability to maintain this protection is now being threatened by legislation that has been filed in the Florida House and Senate. Senate Bill 856 and House Bill 373 would prohibit the school district and the Citrus County Education Association from providing any annual contract teacher job security based upon their performance evaluation.

Teachers are not alone in their concern. Recently a special magistrate (a neutral third party in an impasse hearing) wrote in her decision: “Why allow possible bias or favoritism, or any other illegitimate reason not related to performance, to disrupt a good teacher?”

We believe retaining good teachers to create and maintain a stable school environment for our students should be a top priority in our public schools and of our legislators. That is why the Citrus County Education Association and the Florida Education Association are opposed to these bills.

All students deserve a caring, qualified and committed teacher. It just doesn’t make sense to dismiss a teacher who has been evaluated as high performing.

We need your voice to continue advocating for annual contract renewal protections. We hope you will consider joining the CCEA as we are the only organization representing your interests at the local, state, and national levels. Please complete the member form on the reverse side and add your voice to over 600 members of the CCEA today. Return in the courier to Victoria Smith at Citrus High School.

Remember, If teachers don’t take a more active role in their future, they won’t have one!” – Robert Dow.

In Solidarity,

Victoria Smith, CCEA President

Citrus County Education Association
