Special election newsletter to the restricted class of FEA members

As you are probably aware of by now, this year’s election is critical for our teachers, our students, and our schools. This November, we have the power to elect officials to the Senate and House of Representatives that will put public education above politics.

Click here to watch our latest video highlighting the importance of voting.

For the past several years, our elected officials have passed laws that damage public schools and students. This year, that can change. We have the chance to elect public officials that will care about our schools, our students, and the citizens of Florida - not those who support taxpayer-funded vouchers and for-profit charters. Voting for candidates who fully support our public schools is the only way to see some real change happen, like salary increases, less testing, and the restoration of our pension.

Education employees in this state deserve to be compensated fairly for their hard work; unfortunately, Florida salaries lag behind the rest of the nation by about $10,000, meaning far too many of our peers have trouble making ends meet.

Our students also face unnecessary - even toxic levels of standardized testing, taking away valuable teaching and learning time. Information from tests should be used to help students, not punish teachers.

We need to vote for candidates who will not only say they care about public education, but who have a track record of fighting for our public education and schools every time. All members MUST be engaged and voting like our job depends on it — because it does. We need to turn out and VOTE for us to be successful from the schoolhouse, to the state House, to the White House.

To make a plan to vote today, visit, a useful resource to keep track of deadlines and other important information regarding this year’s election. You can request to vote by mail or find your personal polling place for early voting or on Election Day. You can register to vote in Florida for the general election until October 18, and there is still plenty of time to request your mail ballot.
