FEA Action Alert

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse... it does. HB 7055 is this year's bigger, badder version of HB 7069. The House has "logrolled" dozens of unrelated bills into this 198-page monster of a bill, amending 58 separate statutes. What's worse - more than half of these issues have never been vetted by a single education committee. I testified against this bill in committee on Wednesday. You can watch the testimony by clicking here.

HB 7055 could eliminate many of the things we take for granted that are now protected by our local union contracts. We only have to look to Wisconsin’s teacher salaries and benefits to see what legislators are trying to do to the teaching profession and the jobs of education staff professionals.

But it gets worse. Now they have gone one step further: House Speaker Richard Corcoran has tied public education funding to the passage of HB 7055. This means public schools won't be funded unless some version of HB 7055 has passed. This is unacceptable. We cannot allow Speaker Corcoran to hold the funding for our students’ education hostage. HB 7055 will likely come to a vote before the full House sometime this week.

Keep up the pressure. Click here to contact your representative and tell them why HB 7055 is harmful to our students.
